\u00a0We&#8217;re the state with the most frequent accidents related to deer.\r\n\r\nBut, next week, we&#8217;ll be running across a number of fleet-footed athletes and a number of changed traffic patterns adjacent to Broad Street. \u00a0The streets will be primed for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.broadstreetrun.com\/\">Broad Street Run<\/a> participants, but are you ready to safely watch as well as travel to and from?\r\n\r\n<figure id=\"attachment_362\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-362\" style=\"width: 296px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-362 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/staging.trafficsafetystore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Broad-Street-Run_Course-Map.jpg\" alt=\"Credit: BroadStreetRun.com\" width=\"296\" height=\"617\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.trafficsafetystore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Broad-Street-Run_Course-Map.jpg 296w, https:\/\/www.trafficsafetystore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Broad-Street-Run_Course-Map-144x300.jpg 144w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 296px) 85vw, 296px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 296px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 296\/617;\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-362\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Credit: BroadStreetRun.com<\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/nj.gov\/oag\/newsreleases13\/pr20130315a.html\">New Jersey\u2019s Dept. of Law and Safety<\/a> released information related to a safe St. Patrick\u2019s Day Parade.\u00a0 Walkers and drivers were advised to stay alert, especially amid conditions where pedestrians overwhelmingly outnumber motorists.\r\n\r\nLast year, 164 pedestrians were killed in motor vehicle crashes, the highest number since 2006.\u00a0 Pedestrians share the responsibility of maintaining safe environments.\r\n\r\nPolice and safety officials encourage the following pedestrian behaviors regarding traffic safety:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Cross major streets at designated intersections<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Never cross streets between two parked cars, where oncoming traffic cannot have a clear view<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Designate a friend to safely navigate those who are consuming alcohol through streets, and ultimately to their doorsteps<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nThe <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/motorvehiclesafety\/pedestrian_safety\/factsheet.html\">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/a> reports:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Pedestrians, 65 and older, accounted for 19% of pedestrian deaths in 2011<\/li>\r\n \t<li>In 2010, one out of every five deaths of children aged between 5 and 9, was a pedestrian accident<\/li>\r\n \t<li>People above the age of 21, enjoy drinking during events, especially during weekend events, which take place outdoors during pleasant times of the year.\u00a0However, be safe, 47% of the accidents related to injury\/death were related to driver or pedestrian alcohol consumption<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nThe <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ibx.com\/htdocs\/custom\/bcbsr\/pdfs\/bcbsr-course-map.pdf\">ten-mile course<\/a> takes participants down Broad, starting at Fisher St. and ending at Farragut, passing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.temple.edu\/\">Temple University<\/a>, Hahnemann Hospital, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.navyyard.org\/\">Navy Yard<\/a>.\r\n\r\nThe Broad Street Run is a great opportunity to get outside, enjoy touring the city, and support a good cause.\u00a0 Be safe and have fun, adopting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.broadstreetrun.com\/EventInformation\/SpectatorInfo.cfm\">great views<\/a> from the following locations:\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-353 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/staging.trafficsafetystore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/4-28-13-nick.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"376\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.trafficsafetystore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/4-28-13-nick.png 550w, https:\/\/www.trafficsafetystore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/4-28-13-nick-300x205.png 300w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 85vw, 550px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 550px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 550\/376;\" \/>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cities the world over host runs, and soon, the Broad Street Run will take place in Philadelphia, PA.
